| It is true that colleges often want a well-rounded individual, but your work, volunteer, and extracurricular experiences won't make up for a lackluster report card. More colleges also want to see activities that are an extension of your academic endeavors (e.g. science fair, debate team, etc) as opposed to those that are purely social and recreationsl (e.g. intramural sports, drill team, etc.) In addition, commitment to one or two activities is viewed more favorably than participation in a zillion.
